RUSAL invests $ 7.6 million in improving the quality of foundry alloys

RUSAL has completed the modernization of the Befesa-2 line for the production of small alloy ingots at the Irkutsk Aluminum Smelter (IrkAZ).
The goal of the project is to preserve the market for foundry alloys and to improve the quality of products to meet the needs of IrkAZ customers from Europe and Asia.
As part of the modernization of the Befesa-2 line, the employees of the RUSAL Engineering and Technology Center together with the specialists of the Spanish company Befesa Aluminio S.L. installed a new casting wheel, a metal distribution system, changed the ingot mold design for ingot production, perfected the water cooling system with automatic water flow regulation and the ingot extraction / transportation unit. Similar activities are planned for the Befesa-1 line.
"RUSAL has completed pilot production of the first line for the production of small alloy ingots, which has improved the quality of our products. Thanks to the commissioning of two lines, IrkAZ will maintain its position in the market of foundry alloys in the amount of 55 thousand tons per year and can subsequently gain an even greater share in the foreign markets, "said Evgeny Nikitin, RUSAL's aluminum business director.
